Cliara Robot: Contact Lens Insertion and Removal Apparatus

Craig Hershoff invented a robot that he hopes will help people with dexterity issues insert and remove their contact lenses.

Recently, our Director Craig Hershoff has been interviewed by various communication media like CNN and WPLG Local 10 about his invention: a robot to help people with dexterity issues insert and remove their lenses.

Craig Hershoff, who uses special contacts known as scleral lenses, said he invented his voice-activated robot to help elderly patients and others with dexterity issues insert and remove their contact lenses without another person's assistance (CNN).

"What is so unique and special about this device is that there is a camera attached so you can see where the lens is going and exactly how it's being placed," Hershoff said. "Any type of anxiety or nervousness is gone because you are controlling the device and it's extremely gentle and safe."(CNN)
